December 17, 2015 Comments off

December 17, 2015 IK Multimedia is proud to announce that Miroslav Philharmonik™ 2 for Mac and PC is now shipping. Made in conjunction with master musician, jazz legend and sampling luminary Miroslav Vitous, Miroslav Philharmonik 2 is an emotionally charged orchestral workstation that takes the groundbreaking virtual instrument used on countless classical productions, film scores and pop hits to new levels of expressiveness and realism. It provides over 2,700 instruments with over 55 GB of samples with beautiful new sounds recorded in stunning high-resolution at the prestigious Czech National Symphony Orchestra Studios in Prague.

Miroslav Philharmonik 2

Real symphonic emotion
Miroslav Philharmonik 2’s expressive collection of sounds includes soaring strings, animated woodwinds and majestic brass as well as precision tuned percussion including a majestic 9′ concert grand piano, an elegant harpsichord, stately orchestral chimes, a kinetic concert marimba, a warm and rich vibraphone and a lively glockenspiel.

The mallet instruments are all provided with perfectly placed mono and Blumlein stereo miking allowing users to place the instruments into the perfect spatial context. These instruments have been sampled to convey all the emotion and humanity of the musician behind each note. All of the samples from the original Miroslav Philharmonik are included, optimized with articulation switching and the latest effects.

Instruments in the collection blend perfectly as only the best modern symphony orchestras do.  The instruments are expertly recorded free of excessive ambience so musicians can place them into the exact recording environment using Miroslav Philharmonik 2’s cutting edge ConvoRoom and classic algorithmic reverb effects.

Effortlessly expressive articulation
The string, brass and woodwind instruments all include multiple articulations performed by master musicians, and they can be played using articulation switching or as separate instruments. This lets musicians instantly switch between flowing legatos, animated pizzicatos, aggressive spiccatos, elegant staccatos, triumphant fortissimos and more. The mallet instruments have been recorded using different types of mallets giving players more tonal flexibility. The piano’s soundboard has been modeled to facilitate the perfect interaction between the player and the amazingly complex mechanism of the acoustic piano providing stunning acoustic realism.

Powerful processing
Miroslav Philharmonik 2 sounds like the best audiophile symphonic recordings because of its more than 30 professional-grade studio plug-in effects from IK Multimedia’s acclaimed SampleTank® 3. These fully editable effects encompass the full range of the sonic spectrum and include equalizers, dynamic processors, filters, modulation effects, reverbs, delays and more. It also includes 4 of the best analog-modeled mastering effects from IK’s acclaimed T-RackS mixing and mastering suite and an updated convolution reverb effect.

Play. Mix. Edit: Advanced control
Miroslav Philharmonik 2 uses the same Play, Mix and Edit pages as SampleTank 3. These pages give musicians an extreme amount of creative flexibility and control. It includes an easy-to-use instrument browser, a 16-part DAW-style mixer and a powerful synthesizer section with 3 sample playback engines and 10 high-quality filters.

Seamless integration
Miroslav Philharmonik 2 can be used on its own as a standalone or plug-in instrument or as an additional instrument collection inside of the SampleTank 3 sound and groove workstation.

Pricing and availability
Miroslav Philharmonik 2 is available now as a direct digital download from the IK store and from select music retailers worldwide, or as a boxed version with a USB flash drive.

IK Multimedia unveils Riff Maestro – the free “guitar teacher in your pocket” for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android

December 15, 2015 Comments off

December 15, 2015 IK Multimedia, the leader in mobile music creation, is pleased to announce the release of Riff Maestro, a powerful free app for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android devices that lets users quickly and easily learn how to play any song in their mobile device’s music library. An essential learning tool for guitar and bass players, it’s loaded with useful features for both novices and professionals alike: It sports effortless tempo and pitch shifting, an automatic chord detector, an audio waveform display, touch-and-drag loop point setting, and more. Riff Maestro makes learning riffs, licks and entire songs effortless and fun.

Riff Maestro

Any song. Anytime. Anywhere.
With Riff Maestro, musicians will feel like they have their very own personal guitar teacher in their pocket. It can be used to learn virtually any song in a mobile device’s music library. Its convenient browser displays available songs. Once a selection has been made, Riff Maestro’s magic begins working behind the scenes to make the song ready for use with its collection of powerful learning tools.

With its advanced tempo/pitch shift features, chord detector, touch and drag loop setting on the waveform display and more, Riff Maestro is the quickest and easiest way for musicians to learn how to play any song in their mobile device’s music library

Learning with Riff Maestro
How does it work? Learning with Riff Maestro couldn’t be easier. Users simply import a song from their available music library on their device. Once a song has been loaded, the tempo can be adjusted with the tempo slider to slow down difficult passages without affecting pitch for easy learning. Users can set loop points in a song to repeat sections and phrases until perfected. A song’s sonic information is shown via an easy-to-view waveform display with a time counter displaying where the play head is in the song. Plus, navigating through the song is as easy as dragging the waveform.

Chord detection
What makes Riff Maestro totally unique and powerful is its optional Chord detection tool. This feature automatically detects and displays chords as they happen in a song. These chords are shown above the waveform display as easy to read chord diagrams or large labels. It’s extremely helpful for learning the chords of a song and also for gaining confidence in scale and key while practicing new solo or just strumming along.

Educational Power tools
Beyond the convenience of its looping feature and chord detection, Riff Maestro also offers a number of other powerful tools that make learning a breeze. The Tempo feature can be upgraded via in-app purchase to offer enhanced sound quality and a transpose adjustment slider that can be used to change the key of a song +/- 12 semitones. Similarly, users can purchase a BPM detection feature that automatically finds the selected song’s beats-per-minute and enables a metronome feature synced with the song’s tempo.

Pricing and availability
Riff Maestro is available now for download at no cost from the App StoreSM for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users or from the Google Play store for Android users. BPM Detection, High-Quality Time Stretch/Transpose and Chord Detection are available as in-app purchases for $/€4.99 separately or as a bundle for $/€9.99.

IK Multimedia announces AmpliTube 4: hyper-realistic tone, control and feel

September 10, 2015 Comments off
September 10, 2015 IK Multimedia is proud to announce AmpliTube® 4, a major upgrade of the legendary guitar & bass tone studio DAW plug-in and software for Mac/PC. The new AmpliTube offers a whole spread of fresh specs and updated gear: It now features the most advanced speaker cabinet section ever developed, new speaker modeling, 5 new British amplifiers, a new acoustic simulator pedal, an additional “effects loop” slot between the preamp and power amp sections, a built-in 8-track DAW, an ultra-precise tuner, an inspiringly intuitive looper section and a whole lot more. These new features add to the jaw-dropping inspirational depth, hyper-real performance and amazing sonic accuracy that have made AmpliTube such an essential tool in the music studios and performance rigs of guitarists, bass players and other musicians all across the world. With more realism, more gear, better sound, more flexibility, more functionality, more tone and just plain more everything than ever before, AmpliTube 4 is the most powerful version of the ultimate guitar & bass tone studio ever released.
AmpliTube 4 CS

New hyper-realistic cab room
AmpliTube has always been about achieving the most realistic tone, and now that extreme commitment to accuracy is a part of its completely redesigned cabinet section. The new Cab Room feature is the most advanced cabinet section ever made, giving players a new level of customization and flexibility never before heard in software.

The cab room is a 3D speaker cabinet recording space that can be changed depending upon the desired “room” type and effect. Players can choose from a range of room types – from a cavernous “garage” to a full-on cabinet “dead” room – and mix the room effect and color into the overall sound.

On top of that, the cab room now has 5 distinct customization sections: There’s the cabinet selection, with size adjustment, where players can choose the speaker cabinet they’d like to match to their amplifier. There’s individual speaker selection where users can swap out individual speakers. There’smic selection and placement for finding each speaker’s “sweet spot”. There’s room selection where players select the surrounding recording environment. And there’s also a mixer section that lets players mix the levels of their speaker mics, room ambience, direct amp signal and overall main mix. Never before has such a level of control and customization been available for fine-tuning tones from the speaker section.

Dual 3D mic placement
Musicians can now mike their cabinets with up to two microphones in a full 3D space. With 18 highly coveted recording microphone models available in AmpliTube Custom Shop, AmpliTube 4 allows for a truly hyper-realistic recording environment. The room microphones can also be chosen from the available mics. This, coupled with its swappable speakers, allows for true cabinet miking with full speaker interaction – a digital first – making it easier to find that magic speaker “sweet spot” for an unprecedented level of tonal realism and control. Add in things like room ambience control, a new mixer for the cab section and gorgeous new graphics, and it’s easy to see that the new cabinet section is poised to revolutionize the way guitarists, bass players and other musicians utilize virtual cabinets in their music.

Individual speaker modeling
Never before seen in any other amp-simulator, AmpliTube 4 is the first software that now sports individual speaker modeling. This lets players swap out individual speakers in their favorite cabinets at will, allowing for creative speaker combinations that utilize the many precision-modeled speakers available for a level of tone customization that’s simply never been heard before. The AmpliTube 4 speaker cabinet section not only accurately reproduces the tonal characteristics of the individual speakers, but it also accurately picks up the harmonic interactions between the individual speaker models, the cabinet construction and the room, making it the most realistic speaker cabinet emulation available. AmpliTube 4 comes with 29 individual vintage and modern speaker models ranging from classic British to modern American and everything in between.

New hyper-realistic gear
AmpliTube 4 welcomes 5 new classic amplifier models to the mix that represent some of the best British tones from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Each amplifier has been modeled from scratch to embody a different aspect of powerfully classic British amplifier design: There’s the Brit 8000, Brit 9000, Red Pig, Brit Silver and Brit Valve-Pre – each sports its own matching cabinet. All of these new amplifiers have been created via the same methods and technologies that have made the AmpliTube brand name synonymous with world-class sound, hyper-realistic tone and extreme accuracy. These models also bring a new level of realism and sonic accuracy through a new technology that precisely replicates the dynamic interaction between the power amp and the speakers. This finally eliminates the “harshness” found in the upper frequencies of other amp modeling software. All of this new gear is exclusively available only in AmpliTube 4.

Acoustic simulator
AmpliTube 4 is all about exploring new tonal possibilities, and its new “Acoustic Sim” model pedal turns the electric guitar into a hyper-realistic acoustic. It delivers stunning realism and an amazing playing experience that can be tweaked via its intuitive onboard controls. Players can choose and blend between different 3 acoustic body styles and 3 types of top material to sound like a range of different acoustic guitars – it’s yet another technology premiere from the AmpliTube team. Now AmpliTube 4 guitarists can go from shred to strum with just one click.

UltraTuner
Also stock in AmpliTube 4 is an upgraded tuner section with IK’s patented UltraTuner technology. With tuning accuracy to 1/100th of a cent, this technology allows for the most precise digital tuner ever made. In fact, UltraTuner is so precise that it’s more accurate than mechanical strobe tuners – tuners that are widely considered to be the “gold standard” of tuning devices.

Creative connections and effects placement
New to the signal path in AmpliTube 4 is an effects “loop” insert slot situated between the preamp and power amp sections that can accommodate up to 4 daisy-chained rack effects. In addition to the new effects loop, any stomp or rack effect can now be placed into any effects slot. This means that stomp boxes can be used in the post “rack” section and rack effects can be used in any stompbox slot (on any pedalboard or in the effects loop section). This opens the door even more for creative tweaking and innovative sonic sculpting possibilities.

8-Track Recorder/DAW under the hood
When used in standalone mode, AmpliTube 4 now features a built-in 8-track DAW that makes recording ideas and songs a breeze. Its powerful sequencer-like waveform editing should be immediately familiar to any modern musician, making it easy for anyone to use it as a sketchpad for new ideas or as a full-featured recording solution on its own. Each track features standard treble, mid and bass EQ, pan control, level, mute, solo and record enable functions, plus there’s an FX enable button that allows for the application of different tone configurations to individual tracks.

As a learning tool, players can import any audio tracks into the DAW section, define loop points and use AmpliTube’s built-in speed control to slow down difficult passages without affecting pitch, and use the pitch control to change keys without affecting the speed. This feature is perfect for working out difficult solos or practicing different leads or melodies over a series of chord changes in a backing track.

A truly super looper
Rounding out AmpliTube 4’s new feature set is a MIDI-controllable 4-track looper. Dubbed the Super Looper, it’s an intuitive and full-featured 4-track looper that musicians can use to lay down multi-part backing tracks with speed and ease, and then practice leads, chords and melodies over the top.

Infinitely expandable
AmpliTube 4 comes with the built-in Custom Shop gear store feature that allows guitarists to add gear to their collections any time a-la-carte or in collections. The AmpliTube Custom Shop is the largest collection of virtual gear on the market. Its easily browsable selection of amps, stomps, cabinets and more includes officially certified models from the likes of such legendary greats as Fender™, MESA/Boogie®, Ampeg®, Orange®, Soldano™, Groove Tubes®, Gallien-Krueger®, Jet City Amplification™, THD® and T-Rex®, Fulltone®, Z.Vex®, Carvin®, Morley®, Wampler Pedals®, Dr. Z®, ENGL® and more. In addition to these well-recognized brands, there’s also signature gear from artists like Slash and Jimi Hendrix. AmpliTube 4 can also be expanded with legacy gear from previous versions of AmpliTube via the Custom Shop. Owners of previous versions can restore all purchases and gear with the “restore my gear” feature in the Custom Shop. All told, there’s over 290 pieces of professional-grade gear now available for trial and purchase in the AmpliTube Custom Shop! Gear released before AmpliTube 4 can be purchased individually or as bundles in either currency ($ or €) or in Custom Shop Gear Credits.

Plugging in to a world of sound
With IK Multimedia’s range of audio interfaces, getting tone from AmpliTube is as simple as plugging into an amplifier. iRig 2, iRig HD, iRig PRO and iRig UA are IK’s latest generation of interfaces that allow players to plug in and get pristine, pure sound quality from their Mac or PC (or iPhone, iPad or Android). Plus players can get the latest in wireless stomp control using iRig BlueBoard, IK’s Bluetooth MIDI foot controller (for iOS and Mac).

Pricing and availability
AmpliTube 4 is currently available for pre-order at a special limited-time price of $/€99.99* or 100 Gear Credits to everyone (users of AmpliTube 3, AmpliTube CS, AmpliTube collections and new users). AmpliTube 4 will be available in October via the IK online store and select music instrument retailers at a price of $/€149.99* and just 150 Gear Credits from the AmpliTube Custom Shop.

IK Multimedia brings real time vocal processing to Samsung Professional Audio devices

November 20, 2014 1 comment

November 20, 2014 – IK Multimedia, the leader in mobile music apps and accessories, is pleased to announce another breakthrough in mobile music creation: the release of EZ Voice™ and iRig® Mic HD-A. Together they bring real-time vocal processing and digital audio microphone recording to Android devices for the first time.

iRig Mic HD-A and EZ Voice for Android

With EZ Voice, users will be able to enjoy real-time vocal processing and recording on the latest generation of Samsung devices with Samsung Professional Audio, like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and more.

iRig Mic HD-A is the first digital microphone compatible with all Samsung devices running Samsung Professional Audio as well as other devices running the just released Android 5 “Lollipop” operating system thanks to its new USB audio support.

Real time vocal processing on Android
The new EZ Voice for Samsung Professional Audio devices offers a simple and intuitive way for every singer to create and capture great sounding vocal performances while on the go.

EZ Voice users can process their performances with effects in real-time by applying up to 3 of the available 9 high-quality effects. EZ Voice includes traditional studio standbys like Reverb, Delay, Chorus, EQ, Filter and Level. It also features creative options like Tune, Morph and Choir, which let users apply more radical alterations like changing a vocal performance’s key or gender or even adding in extra voices and harmonies. Users can apply these effects individually or select from a number of included presets for a truly immediate recording experience.

EZ Voice also features a streamlined interface that takes the work out of the recording process – it lets users import any song from their music library and use its included “NO VOICE” function to quickly remove the original vocal track. It clears the way for anyone to step in and give a show-stopping performance.

Available on the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge – and soon to be available on the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and other devices – this app allows singers and vocalists to enjoy real time effects processing anytime and everywhere.

The new Samsung Professional Audio compatible devices come with Samsung Soundcamp, a free and full-fledged music studio app that lets musicians record and compose full songs entirely within the device. The EZ Voice app can be used as a standalone application but also as a plug-in inside the new Soundcamp studio for full recording and play-along uses.

Digital audio capture on Android
And now Samsung and all Android 5 users can enjoy high-quality digital recording thanks to iRig Mic HD-A. It’s the first pro-quality digital microphone for Android that allows plug-and-play connectivity via its included USB OTG cable (an additional USB cable is also available for use with PC). The input signal can be set using the onboard gain control while a multicolor LED provides sound level monitoring.

Featuring a 24-bit audiophile-grade A/D converter, a 44.1/48 kHz sampling rate and a low-noise/high-definition pre-amp, iRig Mic HD-A offers unmatched versatility: Singers can perform and record their voices. Musicians and audio engineers can record instruments in the studio and on stage. And broadcasters and journalists can record interviews and other audio sources while in the field. In all cases, iRig Mic HD-A produces recordings with high-fidelity digital sound and superior clarity previously unavailable on the Android platform.

Along with the iRig Mic HD-A, users can also choose from IK’s current range of analog microphones, like the iRig Voice, iRig Mic and iRig Mic Cast. All of these use the mini jack for the input/output connection with the device. Now singers, vocalists and everyone who needs to capture high-quality audio on their Android devices have multiple options suiting a wide variety of needs, applications and budgets.

But there’s more to IK’s line of microphones than EZ Voice, they’re also compatible with iRig Recorder (IK’s quick and easy audio recorder) and any other Android app that uses the mini jack or USB input to record and capture audio.

Pricing and availability
The new EZ Voice app for Android/Samsung Professional Audio is available through the Samsung Galaxy Apps store for only $4.99/€4.49. A free version is also available. EZ Voice and iRig Recorder are also available on the Google Play store.

The new iRig Mic HD-A digital microphone will be available in December 2014 via the IK Online Store and select music and consumer electronics retailers for $129.99/€99.99. The iRig Voice microphone is available for $39.99/€29.99, the iRig Mic is available for $59.99/€49.99 and the iRig Mic Cast for $39.99/€29.99 (prices excluding taxes).

Open Mic Night: IK Multimedia’s iRig Voice Microphone (Review)

June 24, 2014 Comments off

Irig Voice MicrophoneiRig Voice Microphone
IK Multimedia
$39.99

If you’re like a majority of surveyed people, you want to sing. You also want to write what you sing. Singer/songwriters are a very common person type. Other than a good singing voice and an audience, you need some basic equipment with which to record your masterpieces, namely a microphone and some recording equipment. These days, your required recording equipment can be emulated with software. You can record, mix, add effects, and export your works to a variety of formats for public consumption.

The iRig Voice microphone is a standard microphone with a 3.5mm jack, but also includes a free working lite recording studio app named EZ Voice. The input jack also features an earphone jack so that you can speak and listen through the same interface.

The EZ Voice App (Free) allows you to do some basic voice recording, add some live effects, and record foreground vocals with your songs. But, the iRig Voice microphone is compatible with other multimedia apps as well. It works on the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, newer Mac models and Android devices. I’ve personally tested it on my iPhone 5, iPad 4, Mac mini, Windows Phone (Nokia 928B) Metro, and my Android-based HP Slate 7+. All successful and perfect.

Audio App Compatibility List

  • EZ Voice
  • Dragon Dictation
  • QuickVoice
  • Skype
  • SP Multitrack
  • Garage Band

I recorded a short message using the EZ Voice app for you as a demonstration.

I don’t sing well enough to record a music demo, so you’ll have to use your imagination.

EZ Voice Main Screen

EZ Voice Main Screen

The microphone feels and sounds like any professional microphone I’ve ever used. The mic and apps worked together the first time without any issues. I did have to turn off Siri on my iPhone and on my iPad, but that might just be my experience and not yours. Siri kept popping up when I spoke into the mic during testing, so to avoid that annoyance, I disabled Siri.

This is one of the few products that I’ve ever reviewed that I’m absolutely convinced that the pricing is spot on. At $39.99, the iRig Voice is a great value. It performs as well as any microphone that I’ve ever used. I do suggest, as I would with any microphone, that you purchase a pop filter (about $3.00) to alleviate wind noise, pop, and some ambient noise.

Don’t use the mic when you’re charging your device because it creates a little bit of static, or it did for me, on my iPhone.

Why it’s Frugal: The iRig Voice microphone is frugal because its $39.99 price tag is perfect for anyone who wants to get into podcasting, song recording, or voiceover acting without spending a huge amount of money. It’s a great microphone at a great price. It’s an excellent value. Sure, you could spend $1,000 on a better microphone, but why would you?

EZ Voice - List of Effects

EZ Voice – List of Effects

The microphone’s clarity is demonstrated very well when using it with the Dragon Dictation app on the iPhone or on the iPad. I’m not the best at enunciating my words (It’s a Texas thing), but the software picked up and correctly typed out every word I said on my iPhone and on my iPad. That’s impressive. I’ve never had that happen before and I always use the same lines for testing:

“Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their party” and “Conjunction Junction, what’s your function”.

Those are two fun phrases that can confuse dictation software due to speech patterns. If you don’t think you can confuse the software, try it by using your device’s built-in microphone. It almost never gets them perfect.

Features

  • Handheld vocal microphone delivers professional sound quality
  • Compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, newer Mac models and Android devices
  • Compact cardioid pattern minimizes feedback
  • Constructed of durable, lightweight thermoplastic
  • Available in 5 colors: Green, Blue, Yellow, Pink and White
  • Comes with EZ Voice app
  • Works with dozens of karaoke, sing-along and music making apps
  • Headphone jack for real-time monitoring
  • Convenient on/off switch located on the mic

EZ Voice, while free of charge, does prompt you to purchase sound effect add-ons for $0.99 each. I purchased Tune and Morph, although I’m not sure exactly how to use them. I tap the FX icon and then tap the settings but the same list of settings shows up for each, so I must be doing something wrong. I’m not sure at this point if it’s me, that the app isn’t intuitive enough, or that it’s working as designed and I just don’t realize it.

EZ Voice - In App Effect Purchases

EZ Voice – In App Effect Purchases

In either case, $2.00 isn’t a lot to spend trying out an app. It’s just too bad that it isn’t more obvious how to use the effects. There is a long list of effects that cover everything from arena to robotic to extremely deep to childlike. The effects are a lot of fun. There is one very cool effect called ‘Diana’ that changes your voice into a normal sounding female voice. It’s useful in case you need to sing a female part or speak a female part but don’t have a woman to provide the voice for you. It would work great for recording script dialog or for creating a voiceover for a product or service. It’s very impressive and I recommend it.

The app also allows you to sing along with and record your favorite songs. The instrumental parts are normal volume but the original vocals become background for you. EZ Voice is very well constructed and well thought out app. I do wish it were more obvious how to use the effects, but that isn’t a major flaw, but a little annoying.

I really like the iRig Voice microphone and the EZ Voice app. The microphone is a welcome addition to any musician’s, aspiring singer/songwriter’s, or voice artist’s toolbox. It’s cool to have multiple colors from which to choose. The only problem is that you might not be able to choose a color without a little buyer’s remorse. I suppose that you could collect all six and have one for every mood or gig.

I chose the green one for review because that lime green color has a special meaning for my daughter and me. The microphones are sturdy and well-built. They’re heavy on the end, just like you’d expect, and although IK Multimedia sells a professional digital microphone (iRig Mic HD), this one feels right and sounds right to me. But, this mic is probably best suited for song demos, podcasting, and voiceover work where extreme quality isn’t needed. The ads tell you that it’s perfect for karaoke and portable vocal studio. I’d have to agree, but you won’t be at all disappointed with the quality or the good looks of this mic. For $40, you can’t go wrong.

Rating: 9/10

Recommendation: Buy it, have some fun, and maybe hit the big time!

EZ Voice - Recording My Test Message

EZ Voice – Recording My Test Message

Note: I tested the iRig Voice microphone on my Windows Nokia 928B phone. This is not an officially ‘certified’ product and IK Multimedia does not endorse the use of the microphone on the Windows phone, so your mileage may vary. I tried it just to see if it would work and it did without any issues, but don’t blame me or IK Multimedia if the mic doesn’t work on your Windows phone.
