Secur Six-in-One Car Charger (Review)
SIX-IN-ONE CAR CHARGER
MODEL NUMBER: SP-4003
Secur Products
$34.99 Free Shipping
The first thing I need to tell/warn you about is that you should NOT purchase this from Amazon. On Amazon, it’s $29.99 plus $21.00 for shipping. Purchase this from the Secur Products web site for $34.99 and free shipping. I’ve reviewed other Secur products on The Frugal Networker and I’ve never been disappointed with any of them. They always do what they say they’ll do and the build quality is superior. None of the Secur products that I’ve tested have ever failed or broken–even after multiple years of use. The SP-4003 Six-in-One (6in1) is no different. It is a superb product that does more than just charge your mobile phone when plugged into your car.
The 6in1 is a must have device for anyone who travels any distance at all on a regular basis. It is an emergency tool and you can keep your mobile phone charged on the way. It has a flashlight, an emergency flashing beacon, a seatbelt cutter, a window breaker, and a USB port. If it also functioned as a wallet, you wouldn’t need anything else.
- Car Charger: Gives You a USB Outlet from Your Cigarette Lighter
- Power Bank: Removable 2000 mAh Power Bank
- High Power LED Flashlight
- Flashing Red Emergency Light
- Emergency Window Breaker
- Emergency Seat Belt Cutter
The 6in1 is so good that my videographer, Joseph, “borrowed” it and then gave it to his daughter to take with her on her drive to school in California. He felt that it would make her safer on the long trek halfway across the country. Good dad. Bad reviewer. Hence we have no video review of the product. However, the fact that he took the device from the review queue and gave it to his daughter says something about how good the product really is. In fact, here is Joseph’s statement about the 6in1 after it hit the “next in line” in our review queue:
My daughter and I have been using this product for the last month. She just drove from Oklahoma to her college in LA. As a dad, this was the perfect item for her to have in her car at all times, because I knew if she had any troubles she could cut off her seatbelt quickly. Also, she did not have a reason she could tell me her battery was dead on her cell phone.
As she drove cross country, she was able to utilize the charger for her phone while she was navigating the highways from Oklahoma to California. While driving, we could use the flashlight and not turn on the overhead light in the car which would cause distraction to the driver. We were able to find change that had dropped on the floorboard much quicker.
Once the phone was dead it took the normal amount of time to recharge the phone from the device. The other feature that’s available on the charger also put me at ease is the window breaking tool, which we did not test, but I know she has that it if she were to get trapped. She carries the 6in1 in her Coach handbag. One other feature I liked being a dad, was that it has an emergency red blinking light.
I feel better knowing she has this device on her person while she is living in California away from me here in Oklahoma. She rides the bus, trains, and Uber, so I know she can get a quick charge on her phone and use it to get herself out of harm’s way if needed. The 6in1 does not take up much space in her hand bag; it fits perfectly next to the can of mace I gave her.
There you have a testimonial from a happy customer.
Technical Information:
- 12 Volt cigarette lighter charger
- 1000 mA USB charging port
- 2200 mAh lithium battery power bank
- 150 Lumen LED flashlight – 4 hours with full charge
- Flashing red emergency light – 10 hours with full charge
- Green LED four level battery power level indicator
- Shock resistant case
- 1.5″ x 4.5″ x 1″ diameter
- 3 oz
Why it’s Frugal: The Six-in-One Charger is frugal because it is a multifunction device for the same price as many single function chargers on the market. For $35, you can have peace of mind and a charge for your mobile phone, no matter where you are. The peace of mind alone is worth far more than $35. Just ask Joseph.
I’m not sure that I can say more than Joseph did in his testimonial. But to summarize, the 6in1 is a safety device and a charger. You can charge your mobile device while driving or while walking, watching a football game, or taking a bus ride. And you can find your keys in the dark, cut your way out of a bad situation, or break glass in case of whatever. I’d say that the 6in1 is a premium device that is well worth the money.

EasyAcc DP100 Ultra Portable Bluetooth 4.0 Speaker (Review)
EasyAcc DP100 Ultra Portable Bluetooth 4.0 Speaker
EasyAcc
Amazon $21.99 (Prime)
The EasyAcc DP100 Bluetooth 4.0 Portable Speaker (DP100) is a small (2.6 x 2.6 x 3.8 inches), coffee cup-sized speaker that is one cool sound machine. The DP100 sports a full 4 Watt 45mm driver that can turn any room into a fully immersed music experience. But please don’t damage your hearing or disturb your neighbors with this speaker. Now this speaker won’t vibrate the car next to you at a traffic light, but it does put out some great volume. And its small size means that it’s ultraportable and easy to carry with you on camping trips, day trips, picnics, and on the days when you can have lunch outside at work.
Features:
- MicroUSB charging
- 2,200 mAh capacity
- Up to 25 hours of continuous play time
- 10.6 ounces
- Phone answering
- 4 Watts
- 30m/100ft unobstructed connectivity distance.
The DP100 pairs in seconds as you can see on the video, so no matter where you are or who you’re with, someone can connect to the speaker for shared play. You can control volume and all music controls via the soft press buttons on top of the unit. You can also control the speaker from your phone.
At home or in an office, the Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity limitation might be the standard 10m/30ft, but outside where there are no walls or metal frames, you can be separated by 30m/100ft. The cool thing is that you can still hear the speaker at that distance.
EasyAcc makes some great products and the DP100 is no exception. Look for other EasyAcc product reviews here on The Frugal Networker site. Every product from EasyAcc is well made, performs very well, and is priced perfectly.
Why it’s Frugal: The DP100 is frugal because it is a lot of product for a little money. Its solid construction, long battery life, and big sound means that you can keep this little gem for years of enjoyment and that’s frugal.
Check out the video for a good review of what’s in the box, a demonstration of the speedy Bluetooth connectivity, and a good sound sample. I really like the DP100, but did find that I have trouble with the controls. It’s possible that I just haven’t taken the time to learn the controls, but I haven’t really needed to use them either, so it’s a tradeoff. Read the included documentation to find out how to use the device and you’ll be happy. The DP100 is a great little speaker at a great price and it makes a great gift and a nice stocking stuffer.
Rating: 9/10
Recommendation: Buy it. It’s good frugal fun.

Why Apple needs to unlock the Terrorist’s iPhone and why it won’t
Apple Computer is currently battling a court order to help unlock an iPhone that was used by attackers in the San Bernardino, California Inland Regional Center incident on December 2, 2015, where 14 people were killed and 22 were seriously injured. Apple’s defense is that by forcing it to create code, it would amount to “compelled speech and viewpoint discrimination,” both of which are violations of the First Amendment right to free speech. “Under well-settled law, computer code is treated as speech within the meaning of the First Amendment,” the company said in its motion.
However, Apple’s lawyers are incorrect in stating that this violates the First Amendment. It does not. The following is the complete text of the First Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The full text of the so-called free speech part of the Constitution is “abridging the freedom of speech”. Now, there are dozens of people on both sides of the law who can debate this topic, but the words themselves are clear. Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech.
Congress isn’t making a law abridging anyone’s freedom of speech, but Congress is instead enacting its power to provide for the common defense and the general welfare of the United States. No one is attempting to prevent free speech.
The issue isn’t about free speech and using it as a defense is a non sequitur.
The protection (common defense and general welfare) of the United States supersedes any personal rights, even those afforded by the first ten amendments to the Constitution. Apple’s argument is ridiculous and holds no water. The fact that Apple is refusing to comply places it in a precarious position with the government because it is impeding Congress’ duty to protect the United States from enemies both foreign and domestic. You have to really stretch the wording of “abridging the freedom of speech” to argue against assisting Congress in protecting the United States and its citizens.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook asserts that Apple will have to create code for this and to do so is compelled speech. I say, “Tim Cook, you must be high on legally-obtained medical marijuana to say such a silly thing.”
Unfortunately, Apple might not be able to comply with the order, even if it agrees to do so. I personally don’t believe that Apple can do what’s being asked of it, so the best defense is often a good offense. It would be better, in my opinion, to admit that you can’t do it and ask Congress to seek the assistant of someone else who can crack the device.
Effectively, I see this situation as being similar to a guy who builds a bomb, but didn’t build any capability of disarming it. I think Apple built a device that it cannot “disarm.” The First Amendment is just “rabbit chasing” in order to not have to deal with the real issue–that Apple can’t crack its own device. Apple has pulled the pin and can’t put it back in.
I think we should stop the legalese and get down to the business of protecting the people of the United States. Offer a reward to the programmer or hacker who can perform the crack and decryption. And just leave Apple out of the argument.
The end result of this fiasco, should Apple successfully maintain its standoff with the Court is that Apple should be forced to pay heavy fines for its refusal to comply. My opinion is that Tim Cook and Apple are in contempt and should be held as such by refusing to comply. The smarter defense would have been, “We can’t do it because we don’t know how to do it and as far as we know, it cannot be done.”
The FBI and the Court aren’t asking Apple to violate law, because there is probable cause. There are warrants. There is an investigation. There was a deadly attack. There are no Constitutional violations here. Apple is clearly stalling.
There are really three mistakes that have occurred here:
- Apple built something it can’t crack.
- Apple is in violation of a Court Order and used a defense that doesn’t make sense.
- The FBI and the Court should seek help from a competent source.
I’m all for freedoms and I fully embrace the Constitution and all its amendments. And part of that embrace is that every citizen and every company of citizens must comply with the provision of the common defense and the general welfare of the United States. No individual’s rights are more important than everyone’s rights. The one thing we all have to remember is that, my rights begin where yours leave off–meaning that we all have the same rights. We have the right to be protected and we have the right to protect. And I don’t want to live in a country where my rights to be protected aren’t upheld by the Constitution or by the government.
Apple’s act of defiance is selfish and contemptible. If I were a member of a victim’s family, I would sue Apple for its refusal to help. It is wrong for any entity to put itself above the law and above the safety and well-being of others. Whether Apple won’t or can’t comply with the court order is of great consequence to us all. My hope is that someone will step forward and take up the cause of unlocking the phone for the common good, be it Apple or someone else.

Sigma Introduces Electronic Flash EF-630 Multifunctional External Flash
KANAGAWA, JAPAN — February 23, 2016 – Sigma Corporation of America, a leading DSLR lens, camera, flash and accessories manufacturer, has just announced the Sigma Electronic Flash EF-630, a multifunctional flash designed to work with current digital SLR cameras. Offering greater output of light, the EF-630 features TTL exposure control, high-speed sync, wireless flash functions, auto-zoom and bounce-flash, amongst additional features that make it ideal for many types of photography.
“Lighting is one of the most important factors when it comes to creating a beautiful image, and can be the difference between capturing the perfect moment and missing it entirely,” comments Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America. “The EF-630 has all the features advanced photographers look for in a flash and is the perfect companion to the DSLR.”
The Sigma EF-630 flash automatically adjusts for focal lengths of 24mm to 200mm focal length, making it ideal for wide angle and super-zoomed shots alike. For ultra-wide angle shots, photographers can utilize the built-in Wide Panel to cover an angle of up to that of a 17mm lens.
Compatible with most well-known digital SLR cameras, the EF-630 features auto TTL exposure control, as well as remote control operation through the TTL wireless flash function, where the camera lens calculates the correct exposure automatically for perfect lighting. For multi-flash setups, photographers can use the Slave Flash Function to trigger additional flashes. To achieve a softer look, photographers can bounce light off of a white wall, ceiling or reflector by tilting the EF-630’s flash head upwards by as much as 90°, or swiveling left or right by 180°. For close-up shots, the flash head can also be titled down by 7°.
The FP Flash function of the EF-630 makes flash photography possible at shutter speeds greater than the normal sync speed, which is typically limited at shutter speeds up to 1/250 second for most cameras. The FP Flash function for high shutter speeds is necessary when setting a larger aperture to limit depth of field when shooting in daylight, as high shutter speeds are used to balance the daylight and the flashlight at any shutter speed. To capture natural motions, the Rear-curtain Sync mode allows the flash to be triggered immediately before the rear-curtain of the shutter closes, recording blurred trails behind a moving subject rather than in front.
Additional EF-630 features:
- Intuitive user interface: dot matrix LCD screen for improved menu visibility, D-Pad and dial settings controls, and easy one-click disengage function improve ease of use
- Modeling flash function: check for intense reflections and shadows before capturing the shot
- AF assist light: accurate auto-focus in low light conditions
- Auto Power-off: flashgun automatically powers off after a period of non-operation to conserve battery life
- Manual flash power level control: manually sets the flash power level from 1/1 to 1/128
The new EF-630 Flash can be updated with the latest software from a workstation or laptop using the Sigma Optimization Pro software and Flash USB Dock (sold separately).
